Jim Stempel is a speaker and author of ten books regarding spirituality, history, and warfare. He has published numerous articles in both print and online regarding all three topics. He lives with his wife and family in the Maryland countryside, where he has helped coach little league baseball, soccer, and basketball, while his wife is a retired college professor of physics and astronomy. His works regarding spirituality have been well received. Of When Beliefs Fail (Swedenborg Foundation Publications, 2001), Stempel’s book regarding spiritual growth, American author Ken Wilber wrote: “…a warm, lively, and altogether accessible introduction to the growth and development of human consciousness, from birth to enlightenment.” Fellow author, Dr. Larry Dossey agreed, writing, “We are on the hinge of history, with a new view of reality taking shape before our eyes. His scholarly examination of the psychological roots of warfare, The Nature of War: Origins and Evolution of Violent Conflict (McFarland, 2012), was critically praised by an international audience for its depth and originality. The Library of Social Science called it “A sweeping analytical framework…informative, well-researched, and smoothly written,” while author, Mark Waldman of Loyola Marymount University, praised it as “…the most intelligent, penetrating, and insightful study of human warfare I’ve ever read.”

Stempel has also written extensively on American history – in both book and article form – and his latest, The Enemy Harassed: Washington’s New Jersey Campaign of 1777, has been extensively praised by a wide range of fellow historians.
